Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR - (2010)

One of the most anticipated releases this year for me was this record of the Israeli band Orphaned Land Orphaned Land deals .... a unique position in the metal scene. Since the debut of "Sahara" in 1994, have drawn attention with its mix of death metal with folk influences from the Middle East. After removing "El Norra Alila" in 1996 was a hiatus of eight years until his next job, of course, not be easy to pursue a band in a region torn by timeless conflicts. The main topics covered are religious and philosophical struggle between light and darkness, and the exploration of the religious meanings. In this respect we can say that Orphaned Land is a conceptual band. Were working on the successor to "Mabool" (2004), a nearly perfect album in which more aggressive and records left by a slow progressive metal with folk elements very rich and elaborate that delighted both extreme metal fans as quieter people in the most progressive. for six years, every detail was revised and refined as possible and without any doubt, we can say that "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR" is the best album they released. And to crown the work, these innovative ideas were mixed by Steven Wilson (Opeth, Porcupine Tree), who refers to the band as Opeth Middle East, and in a sense is right. The long songs (average of 7 minutes) are progressive twists and textures, but also the influence of death metal is still there.
The album opens with 'Sapari', a nice song with the singer Shlomit Levi as lead vocals, complemented by the voice of the singer Kobi Farhi, showing the band in a moderate way, as they tend to be heavier and "From Broken Vessels' is shown immediately firm and riffs with growling strong. 'Bereft In The Vessels' is a beautiful song, almost dreamy, but sad. 'The Path part 1 - Treading Through Darkness "starts acoustically but goes in crescendo until the ferocious growls and guitars. Some obscure passages spoken give the cinematic touch to this album, also strengthened by the symphonic orchestra of Nazareth, which adds some soft and dramatic strings. The song 'Olate Ha''tamid' is Arabic and traditional, while "Disciplines Of The Sacred Oath II 'is more metal and savage. The concept is divided into three parts, especially the second part begins very solemn, with an undercurrent of greatness.

This fourth album by Orphaned Land shows as they have matured. Kobi Farhi's voice is relevant while the musical ideas put into this work are quite original. An amazing journey full of melodies and mysticism of the Middle East.
